The Beginnings - Tom’s Electric Company to T.E.C. Industrial
Established in 1919 as Tom’s Electric Company in Rochester, Minnesota, our journey began with a focus on electrical solutions. The turning point came in 1967 when the company was incorporated as T.E.C. Industrial Inc., a milestone marked by the acquisition of the business by Bill and Mary Perry and Dick Hexum.
A New Era - Expansion and Growth
The early 1970s saw significant changes: the Perry’s acquired Hexum’s share and relocated to a larger facility in southeast Rochester. This period laid the foundation for future expansion. By the 1980s, Bob and Jim Perry, representing the next generation, had joined the business. Their eventual buyout in 1995 signified not just a change in leadership but a commitment to carrying the family legacy forward.
Evolving with Time - Diversification and Growth
Throughout the years, T.E.C. Industrial evolved dynamically. From a single electric company to a business with nine stores across the upper Midwest, the journey was fueled by hard work and dedicated employees. Our evolution included expanding our product lines, starting with Power Transmission products as a Browning distributor.
Recognizing the value of providing comprehensive solutions, we grew through the 1970s and 1980s, enhancing our offerings by acquiring a machine shop. This strategic move augmented our electric motor repair business and marked our entry into providing diverse services to various industries.
Strengthening Our Niche - Entering the Job Shop Sector
Our diversification, coupled with a new facility in Rochester, allowed us to establish a foothold in the job shop sector. By building and supplying parts to industry, T.E.C. Industrial carved out a niche market that we continue to serve with distinction.
A New Chapter - Embracing the Future
The year 2020 ushered in a new era for T.E.C. Industrial with Marcel Black and Nathan Perry (Jim's son) taking the helm. Under the mentorship of Bob and Jim, we are dedicated to exploring new value-added opportunities to better serve our customers and community.
